The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, held today a meeting with the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo Pujol, to analyze the problem of sexual violence in the region.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Government Delegation, was also attended by the second deputy of the Ombudsman, Patricia Bárcena García; and the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation, Eva Corrales Melero.
During the same, they have been able to analyze the evolution of the reports of cases of sexual violence, with a sustained increase in recent years that contrasts with the generalized decrease of criminality in the Community of Madrid. Specifically, reports of crimes against sexual freedom would have increased by 8.6% in the region in the first six months of the year, compared to a 2.7% decrease in general criminality, according to the Crime Balance of the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior.
An indicator that, on the other hand, reflects the reduction in the “dark number” of unreported cases, which shows progress in terms of awareness and awareness. In this context, both institutions have agreed on the need to continue working to strengthen the confidence of victims when reporting, among other measures for the prevention, protection and effective care of victims.
Institutions, social and political actors
This week the delegate has also held meetings with representatives of the CCOO and UGT unions to analyze the state of the matter in the labor field.
The meetings are part of the meetings promoted since 2024 by the government delegate with the aim of promoting collaboration between administrations and social agents to stop sexual violence in the region, strengthening the lines of collaboration in prevention, care and protection.
So far this year, a total of 18 meetings have been held with representatives of institutions, professional associations, business associations, professional organizations and political formations, as well as specialized units of the National Police (UFAM) and Civil Guard (EMUME).
