The Community of Madrid registered in the original series 611,700 foreign affiliates to Social Security in July, 0.13% more than in June and 4% more in the year-on-year comparison.
Of the total number of members from other countries in the Madrid region, 24.4% come from the European Union and 75.6% from other countries. Women already represent 47.3% of the total number of foreign workers in the region, with 289,395 foreign affiliates.
In line with the situation of native workers, 74.8% of foreign affiliates were covered by the General Social Security System, reaching 485,168 workers. For their part, self-employed workers in other countries account for 12.5% of the total.
By sector, those with the highest presence of workers from other countries are Commerce (15.1%), Hospitality (13.5%), Construction (11.2%) and Transport and Storage (6.9%) and sectors with high added value such as Scientific and Technical Activities (6.5%) or Information and Communications (5.9%).
More than 3 million in Spain
The Social Security has registered in the original series 3,096,015 foreign affiliates, one more month, the number of workers from other countries exceeds three million, after adding almost 200,000 people in the last twelve months.
There are 1,069,456 foreign contributors more than in June 2018 and they already represent 14.2% of affiliates of the system. In fact, since the labor reform, more than 40% of the employment created corresponds to workers of foreign origin.
In the seasonally adjusted series, the number exceeds the three million members (2,999,225), which is 7,602 more than in June), which represents almost 14% of the total number of contributors.
By sex, women already account for 43.4% of the total number of foreign workers; while, according to their origin, 31% are workers from countries of the European Union. By country, the largest number of contributors comes from Morocco, followed by Romania, Colombia, Italy, Venezuela and China.
As for the affiliation regime, 84% of the members belong to the General Social Security Regime, reaching 2,597,825 workers. The activities with the highest representation are: Hotel Management (29.9%), Activities of Extraterritorial Organizations and Bodies (28.3%), Agriculture (25.2%), Construction (22.3%), Administrative Activities (17.6%), Transport and Storage (17.4%) and Real Estate Activities (14.7%) and high added value sectors such as Information and Communications (12.2%), Artistic Activities (11.2%) and Scientific and Technical Activities (10%).
It highlights, however, the affiliation of self-employed workers from other countries that has reached a new historical peak: 486,905 people, 6.4% more than a year ago. This growth is increasing in highly qualified sectors: in the last year, the number of foreign self-employed workers has increased by 29.7% in Information and Communications and 17.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities
