- The victim is an 86-year-old woman allegedly killed by her partner yesterday Wednesday, July 02
- The number of women killed by gender violence is 22 in 2025 and 1,316 since 2003
The workers of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, headed by the delegate of the Government, Francisco Martín Aguirre and the subdelegate of the Government in Madrid, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, have observed a minute of silence in a sign of revulsion for the murder of a woman for alleged gender violence in the province of Asturias.
The 86-year-old victim was allegedly killed by her partner yesterday, July 2, 2025, and there were no previous complaints of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor. With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender violence amounts to 22 in 2025 and to 1,316 since 2003, when these data were first collected.
Once again, this minute of silence has been celebrated in all the delegations and subdelegations of Spain within the framework of the “Protocol of condemnation and revulsion against murders for gender violence” that aims to offer a joint institutional response to any murder produced by gender violence and vicarious violence, as well as support and solidarity with the victims, their relatives, and people close to them.
After a particularly tragic month in June with nine women and a two-year-old child killed in confirmed sexist crimes, Francisco Martín Aguirre expressed “his absolute revulsion” at this new case and said that “such a serious situation requires us to leave nothing to do, to take our action and our commitment. I therefore appeal once again to all political leaders and to the whole of society to work together, with all unity and utmost determination, to put an end to male violence, to support the victims and, of course, to tell the aggressors that they do not have any support in society.”
A call to unity also present in the institutional declaration, made on this occasion by the Government’s sub-delegate. During this session, all the communication methods available to victims have been reviewed, such as 016, online consultations through the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel in the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
