The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has sent a letter to the mayors of the region, but has also published another letter addressed to all Madrileños and Madrileñas, confirming the murder for alleged gender violence of a 61-year-old neighbor of Getafe. It is the first victim of male violence in the region in 2025, the sixteenth in the entire country.
In both, he encourages us to join in the gestures of revulsion and condemnation of this murder and the other victims of this barbarity. For its part, the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Madrid will leave tomorrow at 12 noon at the doors of its headquarters in Calle Miguel Ángel 25 to observe a minute’s silence and read the manifesto of condemnation of the Ministry of Equality.
The text of the letter to citizens that has been published in the social networks of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid is as follows:
Today we have learned with deep sorrow and consternation of the murder of a 61-year-old woman in the municipality of Getafe, allegedly at the hands of her partner, who has already been detained.
A new machista crime that once again reminds us, with all its crudeness, that violence against women remains an unbearable reality that challenges us all.
Therefore, from the Government Delegation in the Community of Madrid we have convened a minute of silence tomorrow, Tuesday, June 25, at 12:00 hours, at the main entrance of our headquarters (c/ Miguel Ángel, 25), as a sign of condemnation, mourning and commitment. I have also written to all the mayors and mayors of our region to join this call in their respective municipalities.
I invite the citizens, the institutions, the social fabric, the companies, the educational centers and all the spaces of coexistence to join this symbolic gesture or to carry out remembrance and awareness actions in their environment.
Social and institutional unity in the face of this violence is essential. Every minute of silence, every conversation between neighbors, every initiative in a workplace or in a public square counts.
I count on your involvement, your commitment and your voice.
Only with the firmness of the whole society will we be able to move towards a Madrid free of male violence.
Thank you for not looking the other way.
Francisco Martín Aguirre
Government delegate in Madrid
