- Pest prevention and control actions and the control and eradication of animal diseases are contemplated
- The total among all communities exceeds 19 million euros
The Council of Ministers has today authorised an initial loan to the Community of Madrid of 130,124.23 euros to finance various actions in the field of animal and plant health.
In plant health, EUR 30,665.77 is allocated for the implementation of programmes that allow the control and subsequent eradication of certain plant pests and diseases that have an impact on the economy of the agricultural sector and on farms. This contribution includes the funding of laboratories collaborating with national programmes for phytosanitary prospecting, quarantine and eradication and various pest monitoring and control programmes.
In animal health, EUR 99,458.46 is distributed to support the financing of programmes for the control and eradication of animal diseases that have an impact on public health and on exports of livestock products.
These funds will be earmarked for compensation for the compulsory slaughter of animals affected by diseases such as tuberculosis and bovine, ovine and caprine brucellosis; for support for the repopulation of farms that have had to undergo sanitary emptying as a result of these diseases and for surveillance programmes for transmissible spongiform encephalopathy.
At the national level, the territorial distribution between the autonomous communities amounts to 19,081,470 euros (9,323,190 euros in plant health and 9,758,280 euros in animal health).
The distribution is made according to the requests made by the different autonomous communities on their financing needs in the year 2025 for the realization of the programs committed in these two areas. Once authorized by the Government, the territorial distribution of these funds will be submitted to the Sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development for approval. The effective distribution will depend on the existence or not of remnants with the different autonomous communities.
