- Renfe will have more S106 AVE and Avlo trains, replacing the traditional Alvia, in a new phase of implementation of the service and improvement for the Galician territory.
- The objective is to expand the sale and make it easier for travelers to plan their trips for the summer period.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will improve travel times and increase the number of places available on the high-speed rail corridor Galicia and Madrid to travel from June 9, when Renfe will launch a new offer with more 106 series trains in circulation, replacing the traditional Alvia. The company will put the tickets on sale soon.
The objective is to expand the sale and make it easier for travelers to plan their trips for the summer period.
Since the entry into service of the new S106 trains in Galicia in May 2024, the connections with Madrid have improved with routes with a shorter travel time, more places offered (the S106 offer more than 500 seats), better performances and frequencies, the premiere of the AVE beyond Ourense (Santiago, A Coruña, Vilagarcía, Pontevedra and Vigo), and tighter prices thanks to the entry into service of the Avlo.
With the arrival of this type of traveling rolling trains, the travel times of Santiago, Pontevedra, Vigo and A Coruña with Madrid have been improved in about 20 minutes.
As for the total number of places in the Galicia–Madrid corridor, from 9 June Renfe will offer 90% more on average, compared to April 2024 (before the S106). The global offer from Galicia to Madrid from this day will be of 11 frequencies.
Improvement of railway connections Galicia to Madrid
The implementation of the new S106 trains and the new services has been carried out in phases since May last year, with the intention of providing passengers with more and more AVE and Avlo services, replacing the Alvia trains, to give more seats, better travel times and greater comfort.
It is expected that the tickets for travel from June 9 and until October from the Galician cities to Madrid, passing through Castilla y León, will be available soon. This will allow travelers to purchase tickets for the entire summer in the Galicia–Madrid corridor.
