- Chaired by the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, and with the reading of a manifesto of condemnation by the subdelegate of the Government, Pilar Trinidad
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, presided this morning together with the subdelegate of the Government, Pilar Trinidad, a minute of silence to which all the employees of the delegation were summoned as a demonstration of revulsion for the murder of Cristian, a two-year-old baby that occurred last Saturday, November 28 in the town of Linares for alleged vicarious violence.
Once again, this minute of silence has been held simultaneously in all the delegations and subdelegations of Spain within the framework of the new “Protocol of condemnation and revulsion against murders for gender violence” that aims to offer a joint institutional response of revulsion, rejection and condemnation against any murder produced by gender violence and vicarious violence, as well as of support and solidarity with the victims, their relatives, and people close to them.
At the door of the Delegation, the Government’s deputy delegate has conveyed her most resolute condemnation of this latest murder and her heartfelt condolences to the mother of the murdered baby and to all her relatives and friends through the reading of the institutional declaration of the Ministry of Equality together with the Government’s delegations and subdelegations, and the island directorates of the General State Administration.
With the death of Cristian, there are already 9 young girls and boys killed during 2024 by vicarious violence, 62 since 2013.
In this statement, Trinidad has recalled that, so far this year alone, 42 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners, and 32 children have been orphaned. Since 2003, a total of 1,287 women have lost their lives at the hands of their partners or former partners, and 465 boys and girls have been orphaned since 2013.
She also stressed that, in a democratic society, “no violence against women can be tolerated because they are women.” Male violence is a structural violence based on male discrimination and the inequality and imbalance of power relations. It violates the rights of women and children to life, physical and moral integrity, freedom, equality and dignity. We will continue to persevere for a fairer society that is egalitarian and free of male violence. To this end, we call on all administrations and society in general to maintain this fight on the basis of equality,” he added.
Finally, the statement reviewed all the communication methods available to victims, such as 016, online consultations through the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
