The Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid has hosted a meeting, requested by the representatives of the Conservation Entity Cobo Calleja, to address the current project that will be carried out in the building of the Cerro de la Cantueña, located in Fuenlabrada, whose works have recently begun.
The Conservation Entity Cobo Calleja has conveyed its concerns to the government delegate, Francisco Martín, about these works and criticized the change of use of the center decided unilaterally by the Community of Madrid.
The meeting with the government delegate was attended by the president of the Governing Council of the Entity Cobo Calleja, Javier Pérez Martínez, the vice-president Juan Antonio Ortiz Bernal, the Treasurer of the Governing Council of the Entity, Gonzalo Cañedo-Argüelles Osborne and the manager, Montserrat Jiménez Jiménez.
Situation analysis
The City Council of Fuenlabrada ceded more than 20 years ago the space of La Cantueña to the Community of Madrid. The agreement of cession was signed with the fundamental objective of enabling an environmental diffusion center for the benefit of the neighbors of the area.
The Community of Madrid informed a few weeks ago of the start of the adaptation works in a building within the La Cantueña polygon. The purpose of these works is to adapt the building to make it a first reception centre for unaccompanied immigrant minors. With an investment of almost 7 million euros for the conditioning of this place, by emergency procedure, the center will have an approximate capacity of 100 places and would be operational in the second half of this year, once the renovation works are completed.
Both the mayor of Fuenlabrada, Javier Ayala, and the businessmen of the area of the Poligono Cobo Calleja rejected the way of proceeding "unilaterally" of the Community of Madrid without counting on them. The businessmen of the Conservation Entity Cobo Calleja assure that for years they had planned that same building to become the headquarters of their Entity and have shown their confusion by not knowing the plans of the Community of Madrid on this issue.
In recent weeks, the High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) has admitted to the procedure an appeal filed by the City of Fuenlabrada on the aforementioned emergency procedure approved by the Community of Madrid and warns that it could annul the signed assignment agreement.
