- The event was also attended by the Government subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, presided today the act for the 180th anniversary of the Civil Guard Foundation, in which he wanted to thank all the agents assigned in the different localities of the region for their daily work "for the legality, security and well-being of all Madrileños and all Madrileñas", and for making it possible that in "every city, every town, every street or every path, they can develop a life project with freedom, well-being and security".
A work for which they deserve the recognition and affection of the citizens of Madrid, of which Francisco Martín is a witness in his visits to the municipalities of the Community, and which adds to that carried out by the other police forces of the territory to make the Community of Madrid “a safe region and, of Spain, one of the safest places in the world. And a safer country, it’s a better country.”
He also pointed out that for the Civil Guard to continue to be useful to society “at least another 180 years”, it must continue to make progress “in initiatives that eliminate any obstacle, imbalance or discrimination that prevent real equality from being achieved as soon as possible” and has shown his commitment as a government delegate to do “everything possible to make it so”.
Development of the act
The deputy delegate of the Government, Pilar Trinidad, was also present at the headquarters of the Madrid Command, in Tres Cantos; they were accompanied by the head of the Madrid Command, Colonel Diego Pérez de los Cobos, and the mayor of Tres Cantos, Jesús Moreno, along with other civil and military authorities.
Twenty-nine decorations have been awarded, highlighting three silver crosses, 24 crosses with white markings to the Civil Guard Merit and two crosses to the Military Merit.
The event had an emotional memory and tribute for the fallen in the act of service, highlighting the work of the deceased in the last year and especially recalling José Antonio Rosa, the Civil Guard of the Post of Torrelaguna who died recently while serving in San Agustín de Guadalix, whose family and friends the government delegate wanted to convey his condolences.
Civil Guard Foundation
The Civil Guard was created on March 28, 1844, by a Royal Decree, as a special Armed Force Corps of infantry and cavalry with the denomination of Civil Guards. The responsibility of organizing this body was entrusted to Marshal de Campo Francisco Javier Girón y Ezpeleta, II Duque de Ahumada.
The Duke of Ahumada presented on April 20 a report on the organization of the Corps that caused the immediate repeal of the first Royal Decree, which did not even come into force, and the publication of a new one on May 13, 1844.
Today, the Civil Guard is present throughout the national territory and has more than 78,000 troops and 2,000 barracks and posts. For the performance of its functions it is structured in more than twenty specialties.
