- The Government Delegation sends a letter to the Madrid City Council to urge it to urgently renew the agreement signed for the incorporation of the Municipal Police into the VioGén system
- The government delegate initiates a round of meetings with municipalities of the Community to integrate them into the VioGén system of integral protection of women victims of gender violence
The government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, sent a letter this morning to the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, to formally request the renewal of the collaboration agreement on Gender Violence. This agreement allows the articulation of a comprehensive protection system for women suffering from gender violence. Currently, there are 33 municipalities in the Community that are actively involved in protecting more than 10,000 reported cases of gender-based violence. The operation of this system is possible thanks to the collaboration between municipal and state security forces and bodies.
Meetings with municipalities of the Community of Madrid
This letter is sent after the meeting held between the government delegate and the mayor of the Madrid City Council in June in which both agreed to move forward in this matter.
In addition, this week the government delegate has initiated a round of contacts with mayors and mayors of municipalities in the Community of Madrid that either do not have the agreement renewed or are not yet integrated into the VioGén system. In the latter case, they have been asked to adhere to it and sign the convention and the protocols that regulate it. Today, Francisco Martín has met with the mayor of Rivas Vaciamadrid and the next scheduled meetings will be with the mayors of San Fernando de Henares and Coslada.
With this initiative, the Government Delegation seeks that all municipalities in the Community of Madrid that have a Local Police are incorporated into this system of integral protection of women suffering from gender violence.
Comprehensive follow-up of cases of gender violence
The Comprehensive Monitoring System for Cases of Gender Violence (VioGén System) was launched in 2007, in compliance with the Organic Law on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence. Its objective is to integrate all the necessary information to protect the victims who suffer this type of aggression, and thus prevent and eradicate this social scourge.
The effective functioning of the system requires the necessary collaboration between the State Security Forces and the Local Police Forces. To this end, several Protocols and a Collaboration Agreement of the Secretary of State for Security with the municipalities establish the operational criteria and the channels of coordination.
