- About 3,800 representatives of the Administration will attend throughout the region the more than 7,100 polling stations and the almost 1,100 premises necessary for the elections of the last Sunday of May
- More than 150 people of the Delegation participate in the different electoral activities to ensure that the elections run normally
The Government Delegation in Madrid plays a very important logistical role in the celebration of the municipal elections and the regional assembly on May 28, as highlighted today by the Government delegate, Francisco Martín, during his visit to the warehouse of La Garena (Alcalá de Henares) where the necessary material for the development of the elections is deposited. The delegate was accompanied by the General Secretary of the Delegation, Cristina Navarro.
The center of La Garena, of almost 3,000 square meters, serves as an electoral warehouse and documentation archive, and more than 150 people of the Delegation will work in this warehouse and in other dependencies to ensure that the elections run normally.
Agreement between the Interior and the Community
The Ministry of the Interior has signed a framework agreement with the Community of Madrid to order the management of the electoral process and, from the collaboration between institutions, the Government of Spain assumes an important part such as the provision of all physical elements: ballot boxes, voting booths and signage of the electoral colleges. All this material is distributed from the logistics center visited today.
We are facing elections with more than 7,100 polling stations in almost 1,100 polling stations and to cover this number of polling stations we will have almost 3,800 representatives of the Administration, more than 1,700 in the city of Madrid and about 2,000 in the rest of the region, according to the data offered by Francisco Martín.
Elimination of the Robed Vote
During his visit, the government delegate also recalled that in the context of the elections to the Madrid Assembly, for the first time, it will be possible to exercise this right from abroad without the need to ask for a vote, since the reform of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime that was approved on September 30 and that eliminates this administrative procedure for Spaniards living outside our country is applied.
Also, from yesterday until May 18, all citizens who wish to do so can request the vote by mail in a Post office.
Website for local elections
The Ministry of the Interior also launched on Tuesday, coinciding with the publication in the Official State Gazette of the royal decree calling for the municipal elections and the assemblies of Ceuta and Melilla, the official logo of the elections as well as the website elecciones.locales2023.es in which relevant information is collected for citizens on how to exercise their right to vote, the electoral calendar, or the different candidacies that are presented, among other issues. The access to ‘elecciones.locales2023.es’ can also be done directly through a highlight of the website of the Ministry of the Interior (www.interior.gob.es).
The electoral campaign will last fifteen days, will begin at 00.00 hours on Friday, May 12 and will end at 24.00 hours on Friday, May 26.
