The Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, participated today in Leganés in the tribute organized by the City Council to the five victims of 9/11 in this municipality and to the GEO deceased in the anti-terrorist police operation of April 3, 2004. “I thank the City of Leganés for inviting me to this important act of tribute to the relatives and friends of the victims to remember what happened 19 years ago with these people savagely uprooted from their lives and their families,” said Francisco Martín in statements to the media.
“My presence here serves to convey the affection and recognition of the Government of Spain for the suffering they have had and, of course, for the memory we keep of each and every one of them. Here we will continue year after year and always next to the families of the victims,” said the government delegate.
The institutional event, held in the Plaza del Agua (Barrio de Leganés Norte), began with the interpretation of the Anthem of Spain by the National Police Music Band, followed by the magazine pass by the mayor of Leganés, Santiago Llorente; the delegate of the Government, Francisco Martín; the Minister of Presidency Justice and Interior of the Community of Madrid, Enrique López; and the Superior Chief of Police of Madrid, Manuel Soto.
Next, tribute was paid to the victims of Leganés del 11-M – María Isabel Ávila Jiménez, María del Carmen Lominchar Alonso, María Eugenia Ciudad Real Díaz, Antonio Martín Mora and Miguel Antonio Serrano Lastra – and to the member of the Special Operations Group (GEO) of the National Police Force, who died on duty in Leganés on April 3, 2004, Francisco Javier Torronteras Gadea.
After a minute of silence in his memory, the event ended with the interpretation of “Death is not the end” and the “Anthem to the Fallen” and the placing of laurel crowns in front of the monument that reminds the civilian victims and the deceased National Police.
