- Criminal offenses fell by almost 20% in 2022 and by 23% those related to property, with an increase in the number of detainees and investigated, “which shows the great operability of the Civil Guard”
- The Video Surveillance Commission has approved the installation of 12 security cameras for the festivities of San Marcos, from April 16 to 28, in order to “guarantee the tranquility of the neighbors of the municipality”
The delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, has today presided over the Local Security Board of San Martín de la Vega together with the mayor of the municipality, Rafael Martínez Pérez. During the regular session, held for the first time at the new Unified Security Center, an assessment was made of “a year that we can describe as excellent in terms of citizen security”. And it is, “since if we compare 2022 with the last year of normality (2019), we find a decrease in criminal offenses of almost 20% –916 in 2019; 740 in 2022–; and an even greater decrease in infractions against heritage, almost 23.5%,” said Mercedes González.
“And yet, with such a significant decrease in criminal offences, we find two data that are not very common: an increase in the number of detainees and an even greater increase in the number of investigated, with fewer cases to investigate, which reveals a great operability of the Civil Guard in this municipality,” said the Government delegate. “With these figures, San Martín de la Vega has reduced its crime rate by more than 10 points, going from 47.78 in 2019 to 37.14 last year, more than 21.5 points below the average of the Community of Madrid, which is 58.8”.
Security cameras
The delegate of the Government has also reported the approval by the Video Surveillance Commission, at its meeting on February 16, of the installation of 12 security cameras for the next festivities of San Marcos –from April 16 to 28–, to “guarantee the tranquility of the neighbors of the municipality”.
New Unified Security Center
Likewise, Mercedes González has shown her satisfaction to “return to this building converted into quartering of the Civil Guard year after the signing of the agreement between the Secretary of State for Security and the City Council, and its inauguration, verifying how the effort made by this government team results not only in an evident improvement of the conditions of the Civil Guard but also in the improvement in the security of all.”
“All efforts are worth it, but in this case, the City Council’s vision to make an investment like this has paid off in less than a year. As a representative of the Government of Spain, I can only thank you and wish you good luck”, concluded the delegate of the Government.
Visit to La Marañosa
After the regular session of the Local Security Board, the Government delegate and the mayor visited the town of “La Marañosa”, where the Ministry of Defense negotiates with the Interior Ministry the possible transfer of uninhabited homes to the Civil Guard. The visit was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel of the Civil Guard Carlos Alonso and the Deputy Director General of Disposal of the Institute of Housing, Infrastructure and Defense Equipment (Invied), Colonel Mario Javier Talavera.
