With some data, said Mercedes González, “which demonstrate the good work done by the National Police, both in the Superior Police Headquarters and in the 18 District Police Stations, and which follow the same path of the whole region.” “With a significant decrease in crime in our city, one point above the average in the region, almost 4% fewer criminal acts (3.72), 10,315 fewer infractions,” said the government delegate.
The meeting of the Local Board, held in the Crystal Courtyard of the Casa de la Villa (historic headquarters of the Madrid City Council), was attended by the Superior Chief of Police of Madrid, Manuel Soto Seoane; and representatives of the Civil Guard, Community of Madrid, City Council of the capital and municipal political groups, as well as the Prosecutor's Office, the employers, the unions and the entities and social groups of the city.

Mercedes González has also noted “the greatest violence and aggressiveness” that has been observed after the end of the pandemic, with the increase in homicides: 8 more homicides (from 16 in 2019 to 24 in 2022), but also “with a police effectiveness of 100% at the time of its clarification”. “Only two cases remain to be resolved: the homicide of the 15-year-old in Villaverde last December, and another in Usera on October 8, a man wounded by a white gun on Pilarica Street.”
The crimes of injuries increased by 18%, which is actually 252 more (from 1,351 in 2019 to 1,603 last year); and also the tumultuous squabbles, “with a percentage that may seem very high (almost 75% more), although we are talking about that we have gone from 83 to 145”.
Lower the crimes that produce the most alarm
“Traditional” crime, which is the one that generates the most social alarm, had a significant decrease in 2022. In addition, hate crimes in the city of Madrid have dropped drastically, reducing by half.
Narcocopisos
With regard to the so-called narcocopisos, “which is a crime that not only generates social alarm but makes it impossible to live together in the most important thing we have that is our home, over the past year we carried out 112 operations with a result of 220 detainees,” said Mercedes González.
Gender violence and sexual assaults
“If we have to make a robot portrait of the victim of crime in Madrid, it would surely have a woman’s face since the trend of increasing sexual assaults (+48.92%) continues; while crimes due to gender violence also increased (almost 37% more).” With a police effectiveness of 85% in the case of sexual assaults and 99% in matters related to male violence.
