The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, has specified that from January to October 2025, a total of 722 complaints of male violence were filed in La Rioja, compared to the 702 complaints that were registered in this same period last year. These data include new complaints of repetition of episodes and others for violation of the measures imposed.
In 2025, in La Rioja there was a case of a fatal victim of gender violence, a 35-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner in Haro in April. There were no previous reports of male violence against the alleged aggressor.
The delegate, along with the This morning, Noelia González Pastor, head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, presented the balance sheet with the statistical data corresponding to the complaints filed during the first ten months of this year regarding male violence.
Arraiz Nalda has pointed out that “behind these numbers that we offer today, we must be aware that there are women, in very complicated situations. In the end, the denunciations are only the most visible examples of a persisting social problem such as male violence.”
Of the statistics they have presented, the delegate has highlighted one fact: 46 victims are women under 20 years of age who filed a complaint, 19 of them minors. It is just as important to bear in mind that of the aggressors, 38 of them are also under 20 years of age and 13 are minors.
“Undoubtedly, these 46 victims and 38 aggressors reaffirm the need to focus and insist on education in egalitarian values and against male violence,” he insisted.
For her part, the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, Noelia González Pastor, has focused on digital violence because “it is a violence suffered by thousands of women, being a new means that abusers have found to harm victims.”
For this reason, González Pastor has pointed out that it is essential to promote responsible and respectful use on the Internet and that “men disassociate themselves from the male violence that is exercised and shared through social networks and other digital environments.”
Digital development, the use of social networks and the rise of Artificial Intelligence are generating new forms of male violence, which is based on the same roles and stereotypes as always, as part of the structure of inequality in which we still live today. “But it is not only important to identify digital violence, but to eliminate the accomplices who share and tolerate it,” he said.
Likewise, the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women has urged to teach our young people to use these digital environments in a respectful and safe way, to identify and report when they find these forms of violence.
“They should point them out, loosen up, and not share these behaviors. They must promote the denunciation of these aggressions and socially isolate those who commit them, and thus, we will be closer to eliminating all types of violence against women,” he concluded.
