The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, visited this morning in Ventosa the Mobile Office of Attention to the Pilgrim of the Civil Guard, from which the campaign ‘Do not walk alone’ is being developed to reinforce the security of women who undertake the Camino de Santiago Frances alone. This activity is part of the Open Administration Week of the General State Administration in La Rioja.
The ‘No caminas sola’ campaign is a joint initiative of the Units against Gender Violence of the Government Delegations of La Rioja, Navarra, Aragón, Castilla y León and Galicia, autonomous communities through which this Jacobean route runs, in addition to Extremadura, through which the Vía de la Plata runs.
The campaign ‘Do not walk alone’ is aimed at pilgrims to make them aware of the resources available to women and that they can use in the event that they suffer any type of violence. To this campaign are added the specific devices of the Civil Guard and the National Police for the protection of all people who transit the Camino de Santiago.
Agents of the State Security Forces and Bodies distribute this material through hostels and other accommodation located along the Camino de Santiago. In addition, the Colleges of Pharmacists throughout Spain collaborate in their distribution and dissemination in the pharmacies of municipalities through which the different Jacobean routes run. The material is published in Spanish and English.
‘No caminas sola’ materializes in the dissemination in different locations of the Camino de Santiago of diptychs and bilingual informative posters that include a QR that links to the phones of attention (the specific one for male violence, 016, and generals 062 and 091) and to the nearest resources where they will be served.
Alertcops, “Guardian of the Camino de Santiago”
Arraiz Nalda recalled that the pilgrims also have the mobile application AlertCops, joint for Civil Guard and National Police. Among the functions of this tool is “Guardian of the Camino de Santiago”, which allows to share the position with the State Security Forces and Bodies so that in case of emergency or risk the police posts can attend to the user more effectively.
For the delegate in La Rioja, all these actions mean that “the pilgrims can access along the Jacobean route all the available resources against gender violence, and also know that they have the help of the State Security Forces and Bodies in case they are faced with a situation of this type”.
