A total of 1,598 students from 21 educational centers in the autonomous community of La Rioja have attended the 62 talks that the Delegation of the Government of Spain in La Rioja has given this course focused on preventing gender violence and gender cyberviolence.
The head of the Coordination Unit against Gender Violence in the Delegation of the Government of Spain in La Rioja, Noelia González Pastor, gives these days the last talks scheduled in the present school year in the institutes of Compulsory Secondary Education (IES) of La Rioja.
These talks are part of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments launched by the Ministry of the Interior and whose main objective is coordination between the educational community and the Security Forces and Bodies, to provide young people with the necessary knowledge and tools, in order to prevent or detect situations of risk that may affect their security.
The purpose of the plan is to improve school coexistence and safety, through coordination and cooperation between the State security forces and bodies (FFCCS) and educational centers.
Through informative talks, it is about preventing situations and risks against the safety of students inside and outside the classrooms, through the approach and trust of the police forces.
The talks focused on Gender Violence aim for students to identify situations and behaviors that involve aggression or infringe on the rights of women, as well as problems that occur in relationships that are signs of violence: isolation and control of the other person, destruction of self-esteem, threats and intimidation and, directly, aggressions, among others.
A prominent section of the conferences aims to make children aware of the risks posed by electronic technologies and devices because they commit cybercrimes related, for example, to sexual violence: dissemination of intimate images and sexual content of a person, pornovengeance, and alerts or ‘red flags’ that must be taken as a precaution not to be immersed in these situations of violence.
The importance of awareness
The Government Delegation in La Rioja highlights the importance of awareness from an early age to prevent violence against women and to teach the identification of toxic behaviors within the couple, such as jealousy. So far this year, nine women have been murdered by their partners and ex-partners in Spain and eight minors have been orphaned.
During 2023, the last year for which national data have been counted, 4,621 talks on ‘Violence against Women’ were held in educational centers in Spain, of which 66 took place in La Rioja.
