The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has today put into service the cycle and pedestrian lane to connect, through a superior step on the AP-68 motorway, both sides of the municipality of Lardero, in La Rioja. The budget for the works, which are part of the strategy of promoting sustainable and active mobility in cities, amounts to 461,000 euros (VAT included).
The walkway, located at the 127,860 kilometre point of the motorway, is 476.5 metres long and has a width of 6 metres. It has a bike lane of 3 m, suitable for the circulation of bicycles in both directions, and a sidewalk of 3 m for the transit of pedestrians, which allows to create a pacified route for a friendly and safe communication between both municipalities.
This new upper pass connects Miguel Hernández Street with the Avenue. Juan Carlos I and, in this way, links the two existing schools, the health center and the Recovery Center for People with Physical Disabilities (CRMF).
Performance characteristics
To ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, guardrails placed on a reinforced concrete shoe have been installed on the access sections to the upper passage. Likewise, waterproofing and paving actions of the board have been executed in the upper passage to ensure its adequacy.
The necessary drainage actions have also been carried out to properly channel rainwater, consisting of the construction of ditches, curbs and downcomers, and the necessary horizontal and vertical signage, as well as the placement of bollards that prevents the access of vehicles to the new vial.
Likewise, the necessary civil work has been made available so that, in the near future, the City of Lardero can install the street lamps and the electrical wiring necessary to provide public lighting to the cycle-pedestrian lane.
This action is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which plans to invest up to 357 million euros (VAT not included) of NextGenerationEU funds to modernize more than 80 tunnels and enhance the protection of fauna and vulnerable users in the State Road Network through actions distributed throughout the national geography.
