The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) payroll in March reached 3,952 Rioja households in which 11,947 people live, according to statistics published by the National Social Security Institute (INSS). The average amount of the benefit in La Rioja is approximately 516 euros per household and, overall, the payroll has amounted to 2.4 million euros in the autonomous community.
In March, there are 751 more active benefits than there were a year ago. There are also more beneficiaries, since 2,735 more beneficiaries live in these households than in March 2023.
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when it was launched in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Minimum Vital Income has reached 5,440 homes and has protected the 16,286 people who are part of them. 45.6% of the total are children and adolescents.
Underage
The Minimum Vital Income is a benefit aimed at preventing the risk of poverty and social exclusion of people who live alone or are integrated into a coexistence unit and lack basic economic resources. In addition, one of its main objectives is to address child poverty.
In La Rioja, 65% of the cohabitation units receiving the IMV are homes with minors (2,555). Among them, there are 666 single-parent households. If we look at the profile of the beneficiaries of the IMV, 43% are minors: there are 5,134 and, of them, 1,363 are boys and girls under 5 years old.
In line with child protection, the relevance of the IMV’s Child Support Complement (API), which this month has reached 2,568 households, should be highlighted. It is an aid of 115 euros per household per month for children from 0 to 3 years old; 80.5 euros per month for each child between 3 and 6 years old and 57.5 euros per month for each child between 6 and 18 years old. For all intents and purposes it has the same nature of the IMV, as it is part of it. The average amount of the add-on this month has been 66.6 euros per child with API.
The IMV also has a strong female profile. In March, 57% of the headlines (2,250) and 52.4% of the beneficiaries (6,266) are women.
On the other hand, 66.7% of the total number of holders are of Spanish nationality and their average age is 46 years.
