The Council of Ministers has approved, on the proposal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the increase of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) for 2024 to 1,134 euros in 14 payments. This amount has been agreed with the trade union organizations CCOO and UGT in the Social Dialogue Table that has addressed this matter.
With this increase, the Government complies with the mandate of Article 35 of the Spanish Constitution and with the commitment made with the ratification of the European Social Charter. In addition, it allows to improve purchasing power by revaluing the value fixed in 2023 above the average annual rise of the CPI.
About two and a half million working people are paid in Spain following this basic reference.
Benefits for working people
The new SMI will allow the beneficiary working people to receive an additional 54 euros per month in each of the 14 payments. It is 5% more than the one set for the year 2023 and will allow the annual income of the people receiving this remuneration to be increased by 756 euros.
Since 2018, the Minimum Interprofessional Wage has accumulated an increase of 54%, which means that working people receive 5,573 euros more in annual income.
