During the first nine months of 2023, the State Security Forces in La Rioja - National Police and Civil Guard - learned of 9,167 criminal offenses in the autonomous community, 4.4% more than in the same period in 2022, with a total of 8,781 offenses.
According to the data provided in the Crime Balance, published today on the website of the Ministry of the Interior, the crime rate stood at 38 criminal acts known to every thousand inhabitants, maintaining La Rioja as the sixth most secure autonomous community, with 12.8 points below the national average, which at the end of September was 50.8.
The Crime Balance published every quarter by the Ministry of the Interior reflects the evolution in Spain of the criminal acts known in each period by the National Police and Civil Guard, the bodies dependent on the autonomous communities (Ertzaintza, Mossos d'Esquadra and Foral Police of Navarra) and those local police bodies that provide data to the Crime Statistics system.
Typology of crimes
This Crime Balance shows the evolution of the criminal offenses registered by the National Police and Civil Guard in La Rioja and breaks down the data into conventional crime and cybercrime to have a better x-ray of the crimes committed.
Thus, the total number of criminal offenses registered in La Rioja from January to September 2023 adds a total of 9,167 crimes, of which 7,364 (80.3%) correspond to the category of conventional crime, which includes all forms of crime not committed in cyberspace. As for cybercrime, the autonomous community registers a total of 1,803 criminal offenses counted, 19.7% of the total.
Clarified criminal offenses and arrests
Regarding clarified criminal offenses, the third quarter ended with a positive variation of 9% compared to the previous year’s period. Thus, 3,904 criminal offenses were clarified in La Rioja, up from 3,582 in this same period in 2022.
According to these data, the percentage of clarified criminal offenses in the third quarter of 2023 was 42.6%.
In addition, arrests and investigations by the State Security Forces in La Rioja increased by 6.1%, from 2,670 January to March 2022 to 2,832 in 2023. Therefore, the rate of arrests and investigations by the Security Forces and Corps in the autonomous community for every 1,000 criminal offences is 309.
Safety indicators in municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants
The Crime Balance also includes data on the evolution of the registered criminal offenses of Logroño and Calahorsa, municipalities in Rioja that exceed 20,000 inhabitants.
Thus, the Rioja capital has a crime rate of 37.4 with a total of 4,214 known crimes, 3,424 corresponding to conventional crime and 790 to cybercrime. From January to September last year, 3,869 crimes were known, of which 3,194 were classified as conventional crime and 675 as cybercrime.
According to these data, the crime rate in Logroño is 37.4, above that recorded in 2022, with 35.1.
For its part, Calsalvo recorded a crime rate of 56.2 at the end of September compared to 51.1 in 2022. Both conventional criminality and cybercrime are on the rise in Calahorsa.
In total and comparing the same periods, the conventional one amounted to 906 known criminal offenses and 149 cybercrime offenses in 2023, while in 2022 it was 784 and 146, respectively.
