The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has formalized, for an amount of 387,319 euros (VAT included), the contract of works for the construction of a cycle-pedestrian lane on the upper road that crosses the AP-68, as it passes through the municipality of Lardero, in the autonomous community of La Rioja. The urban center of Lardero is divided fundamentally into two parts located on both sides of the AP-68, which makes communication between the north and south of the town very difficult. This new cycle and pedestrian lane will help improve the communication of both areas and reinforce the social fabric of the municipality. The works have an execution period of six months.
The upper passage connecting the two sectors of Lardero at kilometric point 127,860, was raised with the construction of the highway in 1978. Until now, pedestrians and cyclists must use the same road as road traffic, so this intervention will contribute to improving road safety. In addition to the cycle and pedestrian lane, the project will include, among other actions, the installation of containment systems, waterproofing and paving of the passage, the improvement of drainage systems and the installation of horizontal and vertical signage.
The intervention is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which includes an investment of up to 659 million euros in NextGenerationEU funds throughout Spain for the modernization of more than 80 tunnels, the protection of vulnerable users and the safeguarding of fauna, the promotion of sustainability, energy efficiency and noise reduction in the State Road Network.
Likewise, the project is aligned with the State Bicycle Strategy. This strategy aims to promote the use of the bicycle in all its areas: as a means of daily transport, as a tourist activity or as a tool for sport and leisure, always with the aim of moving towards sustainable and active mobility. To achieve this, one of the fundamental aspects is to enable cycling safely, through the construction of infrastructures such as this.
