The scarcity of proposals presented by the Autonomous Community means that the islands will no longer receive around 8 M€, of the 23 million initially allocated in the territorial distribution of aid
The Government allocates 15 M€ to two projects of the EDIL Sustainable Development Plan that benefit nine municipalities of Balears
The Government of Spain has approved two projects of the EDIL Plan in Balears, with a funding of 15 million euros that will benefit nine municipalities of the archipelago, namely Eivissa, Alaior, Maó, Ciutadella, Es Mercadal, Sant Lluis, Ferreries, Es Castell and Es Migjorn Gran. The resolution was published this Friday in the Official State Gazette (BOE). Initially, the islands received €23 million from the territorial distribution of this aid, although the scarcity of proposals presented by the Autonomous Community has meant the loss of some €8 million, which will be redistributed to other territories of the State.
This aid from the EDIL Plan is part of the ERDF Fund for the period 2021-2027 and is granted at the request of local entities, for the promotion of their sustainable development from an environmental, economic and social perspective. In the specific case of Balears, the only two applications submitted have been approved, which correspond to the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and the Consell Insular de Menorca, with allocations of € 8.9 M and € 6 M, respectively, which constitute the maximum cofinancing rate, of 60% on the total investment, for the development of the projects.
Award criteria
In the call for these grants, more than 40 areas of intervention were established around digitalization and local economic dynamization, energy efficiency, the prevention of climate change, the circular economy, water resources, sustainable urban mobility, social inclusion or urban, cultural and tourist heritage, among others. The resolution takes into account criteria such as integrated planning and the transformative capacity of projects, which can be implemented until 2029.
