The institutional event of Constitution Day, held today at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma, commemorated the 45th anniversary of the approval of the Magna Carta in a referendum. The institutional celebration, which took place in the Salon del Tinell, with the assistance of civil and military authorities and representatives of the academic, economic and social world, has been presided over by the delegate of the Government in Balearic Islands in office, Ramón Morey; the president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, and the president of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés.
In his institutional speech of December 6, the acting delegate claimed the full validity of values such as tolerance, dialogue and the defense of institutions, which made the transition possible 45 years ago, and recalled that “today we have legitimate governments, validated by the transparency of the democratic mechanisms of the State.” Ramón Morey has appealed to the word as an instrument to “put limits on the hatred and lies that lead to the erosion of our coexistence”; “turning the exercise of freedom of expression into a verbal shooting against the institutions shakes our coexistence,” he said. He also stressed that the Constitution “contemplates its own reform, partial or total, to adapt to the reality and needs derived from its application.”
The presentation of the event was given by the Ibizan journalist Maria Roig Tur. On this occasion, the traditional reading of articles has been starred by a group of members of the Cor de Dones of Sant Francesc de Inca who, in addition, have interpreted the musical themes Alfonsina and the sea, and the traditional popular piece of Mallorca So de Pastera. The articles of the Constitution selected for reading in this edition refer to equality, Spanish and co-official languages, the right to education, health protection, access to culture and research and the participation of youth in the political, social and economic and cultural development of the country.
The female coral of Sant Francesc d’Inca was born in 2017. Since then he has performed concerts all over the island, with his cappella music and also with piano repertoire.
