Aina Calvo presents the Civil Protection Medal to four members of the State Security Forces and Corps in Balears
The Government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Aina Calvo, on Tuesday awarded the Medal of Merit for Civil Protection to four members of the State Security Forces and Corps in the islands. The Ministry of the Interior grants this badge to individuals or groups who have taken extraordinary actions to protect human lives or property in the course of emergency situations.
Thus, the Bronze Medal with white badge has been awarded, which recognizes actions that have a marked solidarity character, to Lieutenant of the Civil Guard José María Gil García and to the agents of the National Police Pablo González González, Bartolomé Barceló Barranco and Tomás Carracedo López.
As head of the 062, José María Gil participates in the elaboration and deployment of operations in coordination with other agencies, such as the Emergency Service 112, Maritime Rescue, Red Cross, Port Authority, Foreign Health and National Police, among others, that collaborate in relevant interventions in the field of Civil Protection. Also significant is its involvement in personnel search and rescue operations, as a reinforcement of tracking tasks by firefighters.
National police officers Pablo González, Bartolomé Barceló and Tomás Carracedo saved the lives of three people in a fire declared in the early hours of the morning in a house in Palma last year. The action, not without risk for the agents, successfully completed the rescue and prevented the death of the tenants of the damaged apartment.
The government delegate stressed that the medals awarded recognize “the exceptional solidarity shown by the honorees in the exercise of their functions”, and reflect, once again, “the enormous importance of collaboration between institutions to guarantee the safety of people”. Aina Calvo has highlighted the heroism of the national police who rescued the victims of the fire from a probable death, as well as the professionalism and dedication of the civil guard who faces, on a daily basis, “emergency situations in which coordination is vital to protect lives.”
The event was attended by the superior head of the CNP in Illes Balears, José Luis Santafé, and the colonel head of the Civil Guard in the islands, Alejandro Hernández Mosquera, as well as the general director of Emergencies of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Jaume Barceló, and relatives and companions of the decorated.
