Illes Balears received more than 13.2 million international tourists in 2022, who spent 15,220 million euros
A total of 13,203,537 international tourists visited the Balearic Islands in 2022 and spent 15,220 million euros, which represents a 108.8% and 109.1% increase respectively, in relation to the data of 2021, according to data from the surveys of Tourist Movements on the Border (Frontur) and Tourist Expenditure (Egatur), published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In total, 71.6 million international tourists traveled to Spain in 2022 and spent 87,061 million euros, 86% and 95% more than in 2019, respectively. The average stay of these travelers in our country was 7.5 days, exceeding 7.1 days in 2019; while the average expenditure exceeds by 10.5% the data of the last year before the pandemic.
“The data we know today confirm the intense recovery of the tourism sector in 2022. The expectations we had of recovering the majority of international tourists prior to the pandemic have been met, but the most important thing is that spending is growing more and also the average stay and this means an improvement in the quality and profitability of our sector. The strength of the sector in complex contexts such as those we live in and the effectiveness of the measures adopted by the Government are demonstrated. According to our forecasts, in 2023 the recovery of tourism will be completed, reaching again record figures in tourists and in spending,” said the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.
