The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, inaugurated today the new premises of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of A Coruña and Metropolitan Area, located in the Civic Center of Birloque, a space recently rehabilitated thanks to an investment of more than 900,000 euros, approached by the funds of the Recovery Plan of the Government of Spain, channeled by the City of A Coruña.
Rivas stressed that the new venue “symbolizes progress” and represents a clear commitment to strengthen the role of social entities in the urban fabric. “The work of the Federation goes far beyond representation: it promotes fundamental values such as social justice, equality, the defense of the public, universal accessibility, environmental sustainability and cohesion between neighborhoods and people,” he said.
The Federation is composed of 52 neighborhood associations and groups, covering neighborhoods such as Monte Alto, Os Rosales, A Mariña, A Zapateira or Los Castros, as well as municipalities such as Carral, Oleiros, Culleredo or Cerceda, which makes it one of the most active and representative citizen participation networks in the metropolitan area.
The new venue, integrated in the recently renovated civic center, will allow the entity to carry out its work in optimal conditions: with accessible spaces, technological resources and capacity to organize activities, meetings and neighborhood projects. The building also has multipurpose rooms, a computer room, spaces for social services and a room for the Economic Kitchen, being configured as a true community node.
The deputy delegate stressed that European funds “must serve to transform, and today here we have a clear sample of how that transformation takes real, useful and collective form.”
Rivas concluded by congratulating the Federation and the neighborhood movement as a whole, stressing that “from the Government Subdelegation we reiterate our commitment to spaces like this and, above all, to the people and entities that work from the territory for a fairer, more participatory and more human society.”
