The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reported that the Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments broke records during the 2024-2025 academic year, both in the number of participating centers and in the volume of activities taught. During the academic year, 5,231 training actions were offered by the Civil Guard and the National Police —compared to 4,600 the previous year— in 1,015 educational centers, which represents an increase of 13.27% and the overcoming, for the first time in the history of the program, of the barrier of thousands of participating centers. In addition, 154,753 people participated, an extraordinary figure, composed mostly of students, but also teachers and families.
The delegate, accompanied by the Director of the Education Area of the Government Delegation, Lois Carballido, presided this morning at a meeting of the Autonomous Commission of Monitoring of the Plan, where he framed these good results in the “commitment of the Government to understand education as one of the main tools to favor security in society.” At the meeting, he acknowledged the commitment and joint work of the Civil Guard and the National Police, the educational community, the administrations involved and the families. “Thanks to all of them, this program is more alive than ever and continues to respond to the real needs of Galician schools,” he said.
The topics most requested by the school community were once again those related to digital security, the prevention of violence between equals (harassment and cyberbullying), gender violence, addictions, hate crimes and sexual crimes.
It also grew exponentially in demand for “à la carte” activities, such as talks on the environment, data protection, professional guidance or visits to police stations. These actions increased from 2.5% to 27% of the total in just four courses, demonstrating the adaptability of the Coexistence Plan and the versatility of the Civil Guard and the National Police.
In the area of citizen security, Pedro Blanco reported that surveillance in school environments continued to increase to 13,499 in 839 educational centers throughout Galicia. Thanks to this work of the Security Forces and Corps, it was possible to deactivate seven drug outlets.
The government delegate called for further work to consolidate and expand the progress of the Coexistence Plan in Schools, with special attention to the participation of families, “because prevention and education in values must also begin at home and the involvement of mothers and fathers is fundamental to continue making our schools safer, more aware and prepared for the current social risks,” he said.
The government delegate encouraged the participants to think about the next course to maintain the momentum of the Plan and face the remaining challenges, offering the Galician youth the best tools for their personal and social development and safe and healthy school environments.
