The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, reaffirmed on Tuesday the commitment of the Government of Spain to equality and care, with 120,000 euros for conciliation initiatives of the City of Pereiro de Aguiar, through the Joint Plan of the Ministry of Equality. He said this during a visit to one of the summer camps framed in the program, together with the mayor of the municipality, Luis Menor.
No CEIP Ben-Cho-Shey, where the municipal camps take place, the government’s deputy delegate explained that thanks to the help of which the City of O Pereiro de Aguiar was beneficiary, about 150 families can reconcile their working and personal lives. "Care must be consolidated as a right from the perspective of equality. That is one of the objectives of the Ministry of Equality with this pioneering plan created in 2021," he said.
In this line, Santos specified that more than 65 municipalities in the province of Ourense received 1,532,491 euros this 2025 to develop their conciliation initiatives, with the funds distributed by the Ministry of Equality last year, of which 9,331,686.30 euros were transferred to the Xunta for the execution of various lines of aid. "We trust in co-governance and collaboration with the Autonomous Communities and Cities because they are responsible for the competencies of three axes of the plan: the creation of professional care scholarships that facilitate the conciliation of families with children under 16 years of age, the promotion of employment and the certification of the professional experience of non-formal care," he said.
In addition, the subdelegate praised the possibility given by the Joint Responsibility Plan for children to enjoy activities in summer free of charge. "This public service provides spaces for education, sport, creative leisure, friendship and contact with nature. O Pereiro de Aguiar is an example, but the Government of Spain reaches all municipalities, including rural ones, to guarantee real equality," he said.
The Co-responsible Plan, which this year distributed more than 142.5 million euros to the Communities and Autonomous Cities, is the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Equality and for the Eradication of Violence against Women, and is based on a solid legal and political framework: Article 44 of Organic Law 3/2007 on effective equality between women and men, Article 24 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the recommendations of the European Care Strategy (2022) and an approach to guarantee universal rights, regardless of the employment situation of the beneficiaries.
