The subdelegate of the Government in the province of A Coruña, María Rivas, called on the citizens to extreme prudence and prevention during road trips at the beginning of the first operation out of the summer that begins today, at 15:00 hours and will end at 24 hours on Sunday.
A total of 4,700,000 trips are expected nationwide, of which more than 400,000 will occur in Galicia and of these, 139,000, 21%, will be in the province of A Coruña.
In this operation, the General Directorate of Traffic will deploy more than 700 agents throughout the territory that will have the support of other devices such as 216 fixed and mobile radars, 291 data collection stations, 45 meteorological stations, 275 surveillance cameras and 359 information panels along all the Galician roads, to which the Pegasus helicopter of the DGT and drones will be added.
The deputy delegate appealed “once again to all those people who are going to move during these days to do so prudently and with a lot of responsibility and always following the advice of the DGT”. “As we often say, no matter how long it takes, the important thing is always to reach our destination,” he said.
The subdelegate recalls that summer presents specific characteristics that can increase the risk of accidents, despite the good weather conditions usual at this time of year. In this regard, it is important to review the vehicle before embarking on long trips and plan the trips carefully by consulting the information services of the General Directorate of Traffic.
“Prevention and prudence are the keys to ensuring that holidays start and end safely. We can’t lower our guard on the roads,” Rivas concluded.
The Government Subdelegation recalls that all updated traffic data are available in www.dgt.es and that the follow-up of the authorities’ recommendations can make a decisive contribution to avoiding incidents at this time.
