The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, stressed on Monday that the province consolidates its economic and labor growth, with 7% fewer people unemployed and almost 1,700 more affiliates in May 2025 respect the same month of the previous year. "This good data means that the government's policies are heading in the right direction, in that of achieving the well-being of Ourense's families," he said.
This was expressed by Eladio Santos in a press conference offered this morning at the Subdelegation of the Government in Ourense, in which he took stock of the biannual activity of different agencies dependent on the Government of Spain in the province, after the meeting of the Subdelegate Assistance Commission last week.
The deputy delegate detailed that the registered unemployment stood at 13,528 people in May, 644 less than in April and 1,017 less than in the same month of the previous year, which represents a 7% decrease in the annual comparison. "This is the result of the work done and of responsible and effective policies, such as the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which is creating quality employment with the commitment to digitization and modernization," he said.
In the same direction, said Santos, the number of people affiliated to Social Security grew by 1.6%, to 107,945, which means that 1,692 people were registered higher than a year ago. "We note that Ourense maintains the pace of the good evolution of the whole country, which surpassed the 21.7 million people affiliated in May, an absolute record," he said. In addition, the Social Security has 10,138 registered companies in the province, which means an increase of 112 so far this year.

"We must also highlight the strength of the public pension system, because this government guarantees social protection and purchasing power, especially in provinces like ours, with a high density of population," said the deputy delegate, who revealed that Ourense receives about 106 million euros in pensions every month and the number of pensioners in May was 108,462 (67,350 with retirement pension). In addition, the average female pension increases by 6% with respect to the previous year, up to 826.26 euros.
For Eladio Santos, this positive development responds to the policies of the Government of Spain such as the labor reform of 2022, which promoted indefinite contracts and ended temporality, or the increase of the Interprofessional Minimum Wage and the revaluation of pensions, which returned purchasing power to families. He also recalled that "this government is the one that invests the most in public works in history, which generates jobs." "If all the administrations had made the same investment effort in this province as the Government of Spain, this data would be even better," said the deputy delegate.
