The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presided this morning an act of condemnation in front of the Subdelegation after a new wave of machista murders that once again shudders society. In just two days, the Delegation against Gender Violence comes from confirming the femicides of five women and the murder of a two-year-old child, victims of violence exercised by their partners or extorting them. The deputy delegate was accompanied by the mayor of Lugo, Miguel Fernández, the provincial deputy, Carlos López, and various local authorities, security forces and personnel of the Subdelegation.
“It is a very hard blow to our collective conscience. We can't look #face the other way. This structural violence continues to kill and challenge them as a society. There can only be a firm, clear and unanimous response to it,” said the deputy delegate during her speech, in which she also conveyed her support and affection to the families of the victims.
The crimes took place in Madrid, where a 61-year-old woman was murdered by her spouse; in València, where a 42-year-old woman and her young son were murdered at the hands of the couple and father of the child; in Asturias, where the body of a 49-year-old woman disappeared since May, also a victim of her partner, was found; and in the last few hours, two new machista crimes have been confirmed by the government of a 41-year-old woman in Guadalajara and a 60-year-old woman in Lanas Palmas.
With these cases, there are already 20 women killed by gender violence in 2025, and 1,314 since 2003. In the same period, male violence left 3 minors killed (65 since 2013) and 12 orphaned this year.
Durante el acto, se guardó un minuto de silencio cargado de dolor e indignación. The deputy delegate appealed to society not to shut up and to become actively involved in the fight against these violence: “The responsibility is everyone’s. We need to accompany the victims, denounce, break the silence and build a society free of violence against women.”
The Government recalls that there are accessible and permanent resources to deal with situations of male violence. The 016 telephone offers free and confidential legal and psychological care, leaving no trace on the bill. In case of danger, you can call 112 or contact the National Police on 091, the Civil Guard on 062 or through the AlertCops application.
“Male violence is incompatible with freedom, equality and human dignity. There is no room for indifference. There is only zero tolerance,” concluded the subdelegate.
