The subdelegate in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, participated this morning in the opening of the conference “Cybersecurity: the challenge of protecting your company”, organized by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Lugo (CEL) and the Provincial Council. Not his speech, Rodríguez wanted to thank the CEL and the Provincial Council for organizing this meeting, “which seeks to train and raise awareness among the business community about one of the main challenges of our time.”
The deputy delegate stressed that Lugo is one of the safest provinces and cities in Spain, with a decrease in prison infractions of 5.44% in the last year. He also highlighted the reduction of some serious crimes, such as those that threaten sexual freedom (-22.86%), robberies with violence (-48.08%) and robberies with force (-21.98%). “These data are possible thanks to the tireless work of the National Police, whose work deserves our recognition and gratitude,” he said.
However, Rodríguez warned that “we live in a context of digital transformation that brings with it new threats, such as cybercrime.” In particular, he referred to the sharp increase in credit and debit card scams, which grew by 68.1% in the last year, from 279 to 469 registered cases.
The subdelegate explained that the fight against these crimes is a priority for the Government, exemplifying in the Economic and Technological Crime Unit, which also participated in the training day, the commitment to strengthen resources and training. “Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical challenge: it is a strategic challenge that affects the viability of companies and the confidence of citizens,” he said.
Rodríguez concluded by calling for prevention, training and public-private collaboration as keys to addressing the risks of the digital world. “Always count on the support of the Government of Spain to continue making Lugo a safe province, also in the digital field,” he concluded.
