The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, called in A Coruña to continue defending the rights and freedoms of LGTBI+ people “just as the day they were achieved”. He did so in the installation of the banner calling for LGBTI+ Pride on the façade of the Government Delegation, where he was accompanied by the Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, and by representatives of various organizations and associations that seek to deepen and maintain the rights of LGBTI+ people, “sharing the commitment of this Government.”
Pedro Blanco claimed the advances in rights achieved in these years “against those who opposed it at that time and still oppose it today, even resorting to the judicial route, as did the forces of the right and far right”. He highlighted the Government’s action in the defense of LGBTI+ rights, “in which it will not take a step backwards, defending existing ones and deepening equality.”
The delegate celebrated the social achievements obtained during the governments of Felipe González or José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, such as the laws of Divorce, Equality or Equal Marriage, which comes from turning 20 years old. “These efforts complete the constitutional mandate of Article 14: we are all equal before the law, without distinction.” Even so, he called for continuing to achieve real equality, “a struggle that happens every day and in which the Government of Spain is a faithful ally for the LGTBI+ community.”
Pedro Blanco showed his pride in hanging the LGTBI+ flag in the Delegation and thanked his struggle and commitment to the representatives of the associations that accompanied him in the installation of the banner. Among the invited people were Xosé Leis Martínez and Gustavo del Río Prieto, from Corufest; Ana G. Fernández and Pablo Zas Varela, from Alas A Coruña; Sonia Valbuena, from CASCO, and Paco Nuevo, from the December 26 Foundation.
