The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today stressed the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to the educational quality of the public university in the graduation ceremony of the students of the UNED Sénior de Lugo program, in what he put in value “the will to learn as one of the best engines of personal and collective growth, in all stages of life”.
During his speech, Pedro Blanco claimed the role of the UNED how to “unite talent and opportunity, vocation and service, training and freedom”. He also stressed the government’s commitment to the public university as a “guarantee of equality, cohesion and educational quality.”
He told the present students that the event “is not just a presentation of diplomas, it is a celebration of curiosity, illusion and knowledge as a form of freedom”, said the delegate, congratulating the students for their example of improvement and for their commitment to continuous learning.
In this regard, he recalled that the Government will promote a UNED Relaunch Plan with an initial investment of 30 million euros to strengthen its position as a university of reference in this mode of education.
Pedro Blanco concluded his speech by recalling that “learning for pleasure is the freest and most beautiful way to learn” and thanking the students of the UNED Senior “for reminding us of this simple and important truth”.
“The Government will continue to preserve and strengthen institutions such as this, a true sociocultural and scientific heritage, and put a stop to the emergence of private universities that do not meet quality criteria,” he explained.
The UNED Senior program offers people over 55 years of age the opportunity to continue their education without academic pressure, in a context of free and enriching learning. It currently has more than 10,000 participants throughout Spain.
