María Rivas encourages opponents and opponents of Law to apply for SERA scholarships, “a commitment of the Government to equal opportunities”
The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presented to the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of A Coruña, Xulio Ferreiro, the scholarship program of the Government of Spain, “SERA”, convened by the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts with a historical endowment of 15.6 million euros.
These scholarships, aimed at financially supporting the preparation of the oppositions of access to the Judicial and Fiscal Haste, to the Lawyers Corps of the Administration of Justice and to the State Lawyers Corps, “represent a clear commitment to equal opportunities in access to the public service, especially in bodies as demanding as those of Justice,” said María Rivas.
This year’s call has an unprecedented allocation of 15.6 million euros, which will allow a total of 1,300 scholarships to be awarded, distributed among the various competitions covered by the programme. Specifically, 930 scholarships will be awarded for the Judicial and Fiscal Careers, 230 for the Lawyers Corps of the Administration of Justice and 40 for the State Lawyers Corps. In addition, 100 additional scholarships are included in mixed, financial and in-kind assistance (one part is offered directly to the person preparing and another to the person opposing its maintenance), which will provide the beneficiaries with complementary support for its preparation.
Second, the underdelegate stressed, “we want no talent to be left behind for economic reasons. With this call we reinforce the commitment of the Government of Spain to a more diverse and representative justice.”
The deadline for submitting applications will be open until June 23, and must be formalized through the electronic means enabled by the Ministry. This new call represents a new step forward in the Government’s commitment to equal opportunities in access to the public service, ensuring that merit and ability are the only criteria for entry into the most demanding bodies of the Administration of Justice.
SER scholarships multiply their endowment by ten since 2022
Since its creation in 2022, the SERA stock exchange program has experienced exponential growth in both the number of beneficiaries and public investment. The total allocation went from 1.6 million to 15.6 million euros, the amount per scholarship increased from 6,600 to 12,000 euros, and the number of scholarships awarded grew from 245 to 1,300, consolidating this instrument as a structural and transformative public policy.
This effort is accompanied by a personalized accompaniment program, promoted by the Center for Legal Studies, which allows the fellows to have direct academic support from active members of the Judicial and Fiscal Careers, thus reinforcing their preparation with the highest quality standards.
With the call of 2025, the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts reaffirms its commitment to a Justice more accessible, inclusive and representative of social diversity.
At the same time, the Government is promoting the draft Law on Measures for the Strengthening of Judicial and Fiscal Careers, currently under parliamentary procedure, which consolidates the structural nature of the SERA program and ensures that the minimum amount of aid is equivalent to the Minimum Interprofessional Salary.
