María Rivas expresses her “strongest condemnation” for the murder for gender violence committed this weekend in A Coruña
The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, read an institutional statement in the minute of silence called this morning in front of the Subdelegation to show the revulsion to the machista murder that occurred in A Coruña this weekend.
Rivas conveyed his “strongest condemnation” of the murder of 49-year-old Maritza Hellen by gender violence in A Coruña on June 15 and reiterated his heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, on behalf of the Ministry of Equality, the Delegations and Subdelegations of the Government of Spain and the Island Directorates of the General Administration of the State.
With this crime there are already 14 women killed in 2025 the hands of their partner or exparella, and eleven minor creatures that were orphaned. Since 2003, 1,308 women have been killed for gender-based violence. Since 2013, 63 children have been killed for gender-based violence against their mothers and 480 children have been orphaned by gender-based violence in Spain.
The Deputy Delegate stressed that “as a democratic society, we cannot tolerate any kind of violence against women because they are women. Male violence is a structural violence, based on sexist discrimination, inequality and imbalance in power relations between women and men.”
“Violence against women and girls violates their fundamental rights to life, liberty, physical and moral integrity, equality and dignity,” she concluded.
