The deputy delegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, stressed this afternoon the importance of "promoting the culture of road safety" in penitentiaries to promote the necessary awareness of the whole of society. This was expressed during the closing of the days held this week at the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center on the occasion of the World Road Safety Day, which was last Tuesday, June 10.
In his speech, Santos explained that education is fundamental to ensuring safety on the roads. “To take safe driving is to understand the relevance of every decision taken at the wheel and to be clear that alcohol, drugs, distractions or overspeed are not only slight failures, but are negligent behaviors that can have fatal consequences,” he said.
In this regard, the subdelegate highlighted the clear objective of the central executive: zero victims. "That is the only acceptable horizon and in front of it we must all walk: from the Administrations, the State Security Forces and Bodies and the penitentiaries tie each of the citizens," he said.
For this reason, Eladio Santos congratulated the director of the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center, Francisco González, for requesting this "so necessary" initiative and thanked the involvement of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard and the Association of Autoschools of Ourense, which made possible these days that ended today.
Since Monday, the inmates have attended different presentations on traffic regulations, the permit by points, road education in the educational system, publicity campaigns, risky driving behaviors, crimes against road safety, point recovery courses and dangerous goods, among other issues. The initiative culminated in the visit of a victim of a sinister road and the screening of the documentary Mil smiles y un pardon.
