The deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presided today the Local Security Xunta of Sarria, accompanied by the mayor, Claudio Garrido, to coordinate the special device of the festivities of San Xoán, which will be held between June 20 and 24. The deputy delegate appealed for citizen responsibility during these dates and thanked the security forces for their commitment and collaboration in protecting the neighborhood and maintaining public order.
During the meeting, a review was also made of the evolution of citizen security in the municipality, where the crime rate fell more than one point in the last year, going from 28.89% in 2023 to 27.04% in 2024. The deputy delegate highlighted this fact as “positive and indicative of the good work that the Civil Guard is doing in the territory,” although she warned that “you cannot lower your guard, especially in sensitive cases such as gender violence.”
The results of the operational plans of the Secretary of State for Security were also discussed at the Xunta. Without the framework of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers, the Civil Guard gave 34 conferences in the 2024/2025 academic year, almost twice as much as in the previous academic year. These talks covered topics such as bullying and cyberbullying (11 sessions), safe use of the Internet (7), additions with and without substance (10), gender violence (4), prevention of sexual crimes (1) and road safety (1). There was also a session of the Greater Security Plan aimed at the elderly, held on February 27 at the Casa de la Cultura.
The deputy delegate appreciated the coordinated work of the Civil Guard, Traffic subsector, Autonomous Police, the Local Police and the City of Sarria itself to guarantee the safety of citizens and reinforce prevention, both during the holidays and in the day-to-day.
