The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, celebrated, together with the deputy mayor of Mugardos, Ana María Varela, the adhesion of the municipality to the VioGén system, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and aimed at monitoring and protecting women victims of gender violence as well as their sons and daughters. It did so today during the Local Security Board held in the municipality and in which they also agreed to strengthen the collaboration between the Civil Guard and the Local Police to maintain the positive data of the concello, as well as to guarantee security during the celebration of the XXIII Octopus Festival.
The subdelegate of the Government stressed the importance of the concellos being part of the VioGén system of surveillance and protection of the victims because “it is precisely they who are closest to the neighborhood and therefore it is the local police of each city that have a greater knowledge of the local reality, which substantially improves the action in the protection of women victims of gender violence.”
After signing the protocol, a subdelegate said that “VioGen is a good tool to work in a coordinated way and continue moving forward in the protection of victims. In this sense, he recalled that the fight against male violence reaches the whole of society as well as the institutions “we have to make every effort to make all the tools available to this daily fight that the fight against gender violence”, added Rivas.
In this regard, he called for municipalities that have local police (currently 60 concellos have these assets) and that have not yet joined the VioGén system to join it (currently 46.6% of the concellos are within the VioGén system).
The VioGén system in the province of A Coruña currently has 2,787 active cases of gender violence. “Behind every case of violence there is a woman who is a priority for the government. A family that needs all our support and resources, and all the work is little to guarantee its protection,” said Rivas, emphasizing the coordination of all institutions to guarantee the necessary security for the victims and their families and to fight against male violence.
“All administrations must work hand in hand to provide victims with all the necessary resources, to accompany them and to guarantee them the right to a life without fear,” concluded Rivas, stressing the importance of working together on all axes. Not an area of security in the concello, the subdelegate of the Government valued the good collaboration between the Civil Guard and the Local Police, which allows the municipality of Mugardos to consolidate a good security situation. “Clear evidence of this is the data on the crime rate (24.5 crimes per thousand inhabitants), which means that it is more than 10 points below the average of the province and of Galicia (35 crimes per thousand), which is the third safest community in the State,” said Rivas.
Festival of the Octopus
The deputy delegate, the mayor of Mugardos, representatives of the Local Police and the Civil Guard and the head of the Traffic Detachment of Ferrol, took advantage of the Local Security Xunta to approve the special device that allows to guarantee the security of the Octopus party.
The subdelegate asked the neighborhood and the general public to respect safety standards during the celebration of the activity. “The Octopus Festival is one of the most outstanding activities of the port of Mugardos, bringing together neighborhoods and volunteers of the cultural associations of the villa with the hundreds of tourists willing to enjoy the day.
That is why we work together to guarantee security by strengthening the presence of the Civil Guard and the Traffic subsector in collaboration with the Local Police, Civil Protection and all the people who collaborate in the organization of this event,” said the subdelegate.
