The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, made this Friday an appeal for the prudence of motorcyclists, who must comply with traffic rules and improve their self-protection. It did so during the supervision of the special campaign of control and surveillance of motorcycles carried out since Thursday by the Provincial Traffic Headquarters (DGT) in Galicia and the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard on the Galician roads and which will last until Sunday.
Accompanied by the head of the Ourense Traffic Subsector, Javier Barja, and by the provincial head of Traffic, David Llorente, the subdelegate of the Government warned that "the risk of dying in a traffic accident is 17 times greater for a person who goes on a motorcycle", since they are vulnerable users.
Eladio Santos recalled that last year 22 people died on Galician roads out of a total of 224 accidents with victims and with motorcycles and mopeds involved. In the province of Ourense there were three deaths out of a total of 26 accidents involving motorcycles. Not that this year, no fatalities were recorded in the province, in which three motorcycle accidents were counted. For this reason, the subdelegate set the goal "to achieve among all that the figure does not increase and end the year with zero fatalities".
To achieve this goal, he added, "it is essential to the collaboration and caution of the drivers of the other vehicles circulating on the roads." "We should all be careful at intersections when a motorcycle approaches and be vigilant," he said.
