The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, congratulated the Civil Guard for the "thorough and rigorous work" that allowed to dismantle a criminal organization allegedly dedicated to committing robberies inside inhabited homes and to the cultivation of drugs. This was expressed during the press conference offered this Thursday along with the lieutenant colonel head of the Civil Guard of Ourense, Rafael Berguillo; the captain of the Organized Unit of the Judicial Police, Juan José López Castro, and the head of Operations, José Benito Santamarina.
In the call, the subdelegate and the agents made known the details of Operation Vertigo, whose investigation lasted ten months and culminated in the arrest of nine people. Those arrested were being investigated by the Civil Guard of Ourense for the robberies perpetrated in the towns of Beariz and Avion in July last year.
Eladio Santos explained that the Civil Guard attributes to the detainees 14 crimes against property (theft inside inhabited houses), integration into criminal organization, illegal possession of weapons, money laundering and drug trafficking. "Different records were made in several provinces of the national territory, Barcelona, Tarragona and Castellón," he said.
In the inspections, added the subdelegate, "three small arms were involved; five marijuana plantations with a total of 2100 plants; ten kilos of hashish and one hundred kilos of marijuana already packaged and ready for distribution; more than 7000 euros in cash, and chemical material for gold processing."
Santos stressed that the dismantling of this criminal organization dedicated to house theft throughout the national territory and drug trafficking “demonstrates the professionalism and coordination of the Judicial Police Units of the Civil Guard Command of Ourense and the Judicial Police Unit of the Area of Catalonia.” In addition, he trusted that "the action will allow those who attacked to the detriment of the heritage of the citizens to face the responsibility that derives from it."
