The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has celebrated today that Galicia revalidates in the first quarter of this year its position as the third safest community in Spain, according to the Crime Balance that has just been published this morning by the Ministry of the Interior. From the analysis of the figures in this report, the delegate highlighted the new improvement in the rate of police effectiveness, which remains the best in the last eight years, and for which he congratulated the Security Forces and Corps in Galicia.
Pedro Blanco pointed out that the figures published today certify a trend towards stability in the volume of criminal offenses committed in Galicia and, therefore, of security indices. Thus, at the end of the first quarter of this year 2025, the crime rate in Galicia is 35.3 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, the same figure recorded in the immediately preceding quarter. With regard to criminal offences, Galicia recorded 23,308 criminal offences between January and March of this year, compared to 23,082 recorded in the same period in 2024. With respect to the national average, Galicia is almost 15 points below the crime rate of Spain as a whole.
Police effectiveness
The delegate highlighted the operational results of the Security Forces and Corps included in the Ministry’s Balance Sheet, which point to an improvement in police effectiveness in Galicia, which is in addition to the successive increases in the last balances.
In the first quarter of this year, this rate reached 44.1 of known prison infractions in Galicia, 2.3% higher than in the last quarter of 2024, and the best in the last eight years.
Cybercrime
The delegate again focused on cybercrime, which rebounded in the first quarter of this year 2025 with an increase of 14% with respect to the same period of the previous year. This rise is mainly based on computer scams.
The data collected in this first Balace of the year indicate that almost 30% of the known crimes in Galicia between January and March used computer means in their execution and that nine out of ten fall into the category of scams.
Pedro Blanco pointed out that, if the figure of cybercrimes were excluded from the Galician global count, crime in this first quarter would accumulate a drop of 2.5%.
In this section, the delegate wanted to highlight the efforts of the National Police and Civil Guard personnel specialized in this type of crime, since in this quarter they raised by 25% the clarification of the scams committed by these electronic means.
