The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, highlighted the advances in equipment, regulations and financing in the last year that allow to improve the protection of victims of gender violence in the province of A Coruña. He defended it today at the meeting of the Provincial Commission on Gender Violence held at the headquarters of the Provincial High Court of A Coruña. Among them, he cited the approval of the new State Pact against Gender Violence and the entry into force of the VIOGEN 2 System, which in recent months joined the staff of the Women's Care Centers (CIM) of the municipalities of A Coruña, thanks to the initiative of the Government Delegation in Galicia.
In addition, and with respect to VIOGEN, which is the system of case monitoring and police protection of the Ministry of the Interior, the subdelegate described as very positive that in this last year, the incorporation in the province of Córdoba of the local police of Betanzos, Boiro, Miño, Narón, Sada and Valdoviño. These additions mean that 27 municipalities in the province, which have a minimum number of local police officers, can collaborate with the Civil Guard and the National Police in the protection of women included in this system within their municipalities. Especially when, as indicated by the subdelegate, 46% of the active cases of Galicia in the VIOGEN System are in the province of A Coruña.
María Rivas insisted on the increase of funding and public resources coming from the Government, both at regional and municipal level, with transfers of more than 4.3 million euros since 2018 to the municipalities of the province of A Coruña.
Among the facilities that recently came into service, it highlighted the implementation of two centers in the province (in the towns of Ferrol and Santiago), financed by the Government of Spain and that serve women victims of gender or sexual violence 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The subdelegate concluded by pointing out that the greater impact of awareness-raising policies and the reduction of social and personal tolerance in the face of this type of crime is translating into a greater willingness of victims to report and to put their cases in the hands of the State Security Forces.
Today’s meeting, convened by the Provincial High Court of A Coruña, was attended by the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Galicia, María Debén, and the head of the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation in A Coruña, Manuela Vilaboy.
