The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, claimed today in Vigo that “the Government of Spain is demonstrating, with facts and investments, its firm commitment to the urban transformation of the great Galician cities”. He pointed this out in the act of beginning the works of reform of the avenue of Madrid, in Vigo, to which the Ministry of Transport contributed 11.7 million euros, 70% of the almost 17 million that will mean the total action for the humanization and improvement of one of the main entrances to the Olivary city.
Accompanied by the mayor, Abel Caballero, and by the municipal government team, Pedro Blanco stressed that this contribution of the Government of Pedro Sánchez allows to respond to “a historical demand of the city, fruit of listening to the municipalities and of the response to their needs that is a sign of identity of the Government.”
He also demanded institutional collaboration and loyal cooperation between the Government of Spain and the City of Vigo “from which this fundamental action was born to build a better, more accessible, more friendly and designed Vigo for people”. “The Government of Spain is committed to Vigo and we are demonstrating this with unprecedented facts, projects and investments in infrastructure, mobility, housing and social welfare,” said Blanco, who stressed that this work is “a before and an after for the city” and represents an opportunity to “modernize and integrate in Vigo one of its main arteries of entry, through which almost 51,000 vehicles circulate daily.”
Finally, the delegate stressed that this action is part of a broad strategy led by the Government of Spain to improve the large cities of Galicia and the quality of life of Galician citizens, moving towards a new sustainable mobility: “We will continue working hand in hand with the municipalities to continue transforming Galicia, because both Vigo and the other municipalities have in the Government the best ally to build their future”.
The reform of Madrid Avenue will make it possible to humanize more than 2 kilometers of the old A-55 motorway, between the Plaza de España and Gandarón Street, with the aim of improving road safety, pedestrian mobility and urban integration of this strategic axis. The project includes the renovation of the firm, the expansion of sidewalks, the improvement of lighting, the elimination of metal fences, new zebra crossings and the rearrangement of key intersections such as Calle San Roque, Carretera del Vilar and Calle Gandarón.
