The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, announced today that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has a comprehensive project of improvements in the environment of the O Burgo estuary “that will respond to the demands transferred by the municipalities”.
The project, with a planned budget of more than 5 million euros, will allow to renew and condition in a uniform way the promenade that runs through the metropolitan area of A Coruña, converging in the municipalities of Culleredo, Oleiros, Cambre and A Coruña.
Blanco pointed out the importance of these works “fundamental to complete the regeneration and humanization of the estuary and improve the quality of life of the neighborhood.” In this regard, he stressed that “the Government, once again, shows with facts the sensitivity and commitment to recover this space, after investing 41.5 million euros in the dredging of the O Burgo estuary, the most important decontamination project of the Ministry in Spain”.
The delegate reported that the project of the Ministry, elaborated by the Provincial Coast Service, includes different actions in the field of recovery and conservation of pedestrian traffic on the entire edge of the estuary. In this way, the extension of the promenade from one of the ends of the enclosure of the concello of Oleiros will be addressed for its connection with that of Cambre (453m), with improvements in the wall of the promenade of Culleredo, the construction and repair of pavements of its estuary (3.200m), as well as the replacement of the bars by waterproof elements such as a pretil of granite “that allow increases of the sea level over any insurance for the pedestrians”, added the delegate.
The Government also plans to extend the maritime border in the area of A Pasaxe by providing it with pedestrian pavement and a bicycle lane, similar to those executed in the rest of the estuary (more than 4 km).
These actions are complemented by the project of treatment of the edge of the coast in the Paraiso Park, in the Concellode Oleiros, with a budget of more than half a million euros. “It is about carrying out a walk of 3 meters wide stuck to the shore of the sea and with which will be given continuity to the walk already executed facilitating the accessibility of users,” added the delegate.
Finally, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge will build a new pedestrian walkway in Santa Cruz, Oleiros.
