The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today transferred to the Galician social entities the improvements in the labor and social integration of the new Regulation on Foreigners implemented by the Government of Spain. Pedro Blanco highlighted the need to address this profound reform, which is adapted to the situation and needs of migrants in Spain, to the demands of the labour buyer and the respondent by civil society.
Faced with the imminent entry into force of the new regulation, which will be official on May 20, the government delegate wanted to hold a working meeting with the heads of the main immigration support organizations in Galicia to analyze the main developments and know first-hand the needs in the Galician territory.
In this regard, Pedro Blanco advanced that with this rule, what the Government seeks is to reduce bureaucratic procedures, provide greater legal security, provide greater agility to procedures, increase the protection of workers and increase regular migration routes.
“We will respond more effectively to the situations and peculiarities of foreign people in Galicia, improving their integration through three axes: work, training and family,” said the delegate. In relation to training, it is envisaged the creation of a register of recognized centers, the possibility of working 30 hours a week to promote conciliation and facilitate the transition from the authorization of stay for studies to the authorization of residence and employment for those students who obtained a degree. In the field of employment, the Government includes the extension of residence permits, the improvement of recruitment at origin and the residence permit, which will be associated with the work permit.
Finally, in relation to the family, family reunification is improved, the assumptions of a Spanish relative are expanded and defined and, for foreign people who were victims of gender, sexual and trafficking violence, the reunification of their children and ascendants is allowed. “We are committed to improving the attention to citizenship in the territory and streamlining the procedures and files that affect foreign people in Galicia,” said the delegate.

The delegate reported that the Offices of Foreigners of the Delegation and the Subdelegations of the Government in Galicia attended 114,000 consultations during the year 2024, through three channels enabled: telephone, mailbox and face-to-face attention.
“These figures show the daily workload of the public personnel of the General Administration of the State and how important the new Regulation is to face these challenges that we face, speeding up the processing of files and reducing the time and number of authorizations in process,” said Pedro Blanco.
