The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, highlighted in Santiago de Compostela the importance of collaboration between institutions in the fight against any form of violence against women. He did so during the visit to the 24-hour Crisis Center located in the Gil Casares hospital complex of this town.
No event, in which the general director of the Fight against Gender Violence of the Xunta, Roberto Barba, and the head of the Unit Against Violence on Women of the Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña, Manuela Vilaboy, the subdelegate of the Government reported that the 24H Crisis Center is possible thanks to the commitment of the Government to this fight, “a commitment that materializes in an investment of 6 million euros through the Recovery Plan to put these centers in place in Galicia in the Community”. In total there are five centers, two of them in the province of A Coruña, in Ferrol in Santiago de Compostela, and another three in Vigo, Ourense and Lugo.
María Rivas explained that these centers are designed so that victims have permanent care at their disposal so that, in case of any aggression, they receive urgent assistance, both psychological, legal and social, “for them and also for the people around them,” said the subdelegate. “This action is another example of the Government’s commitment to increase and improve the services provided to women victims of sexual crimes, just as we do with victims of male violence, with more than 84 million euros invested since 2018 in Galicia,” said the subdelegate, who recalled that so far this year five women were killed by gender violence, and this week a minor due to vicarious violence, “crimes that we cannot and do not want to tolerate,” she added.
That is why he stressed the importance of collaboration between the Xunta, the Government and the municipalities “to fight together against any form of violence against women, because only then can we end this terrible reality,” he said.
The deputy delegate took the opportunity to highlight the launch of the center and to congratulate herself on the collaboration between institutions “to provide such an important service for women as care for victims.”
