The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, participated today in the inauguration of the 3rd Congress of the UGT Lugo, Lemos and Costa, where she highlighted the significant advances in employment and social rights in the province.
Rodríguez highlighted the significant drop in unemployment in Galicia, noting that in March the registered unemployment fell by 1,822 people, placing the community as the third in Spain with the greatest reduction in absolute terms. In particular, the province of Lugo experienced a decrease of 302 redundancies, reflecting a positive trend in the local labor purchase.
In her speech, the subdelegate highlighted the policies implemented by the Government of Spain, such as labor reform and the increase of the Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI). The latter experienced an increase of 5% in 2024, going from 1,080 euros to 1,134 euros per month in 14 payments, “benefiting numerous workers in the province”.
Likewise, Rodríguez stressed the importance of the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) in the fight against poverty and social exclusion. According to official data, in the province of Lugo around 13,000 people benefit from this benefit, “which represents crucial support for the most vulnerable households.”
The deputy delegate reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue working together with the unions, administrations and companies to consolidate these advances and face the remaining challenges in terms of conciliation, real equality and recognition of care. “Social dialogue will continue to be the essential tool to achieve new rights and consolidate those already achieved,” Rodríguez concluded.
