The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Spain to the access of Galicians and Galicians to a dignified housing. The delegate stressed that “Vigo is a clear example of this effort, with investments of more than 43 million euros in recent years in Housing and Urban Agenda policies”. “Betting on co-governance in those policies that are the competence of the Autonomous Communities, such as housing and by the hand of the Concello, we are supporting the creation of housing and improving neighborhoods such as Navia, Col, Bouzas, the old town or Teis, promoting new housing for official protection and guaranteeing a more accessible city,” he explained.
The government delegate, accompanied by the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, visited today the construction projects of 240 houses of official protection in the neighborhood of Navia. These homes have a state contribution of 11.5 million euros from the Recovery Plan, channeled through the Xunta de Galicia.
“There is a very clear fact: 2 of every 3 euros invested in public housing in Galicia come from the Government of Spain, which in recent years allocated more than 520 million euros in public housing”, he explained, recalling that “we are present in all programs in public housing, collaborating with the concellos and with the Xunta, to guarantee a dignified housing, in an unprecedented effort by the ministry directed by Isabel Rodríguez to facilitate access to housing, rehabilitate neighborhoods and, ultimately, improve the lives of thousands of Galician families”.
In addition, Pedro Blanco detailed, among other investments, that the Government allocates 6.5 million euros from the Recovery Plan to the Neighborhood Level Housing Rehabilitation Program. This initiative will allow the rehabilitation of 970 homes in Vigo, benefiting neighborhoods such as Costa, Col, Bouzas, A Salgueira, Casco Viejo, Lavadores, etc.
Within the framework of the Urban Agenda policies, the implementation of the Low Emission Zones (ZBE) within the PRTR represented an investment of more than 21 million euros in Vigo to promote sustainable mobility and contribute to the transformation of the city.
Pedro Blanco recalled that today comes into force a regulatory reform that gives communities of neighbors a final word about the tourist floors of their buildings, with the aim of guaranteeing coexistence and avoiding the negative impact of the uncontrolled proliferation of tourist rentals.
For the delegate, this “is a key measure for the balance between housing rights and tourism.” Thus, he called on the Xunta to “collaborate in the declaration of stressed areas, because we see in other territories where the Housing Law is applied how rental prices are reduced.” “The law works, but responsibility and high standards are required on the part of all administrations,” he said.
